Current Issues

Pushing through SB289 to stop drugged driving in California is desperately needed

OJE work with California Senator Lou Correa (D - Santa Ana) on SB289 in an attempt to establish a zero- tolerance law on driving under the influence of drugs (DUI-drugs).  This is vital for our society and 18 other states already have such a law.  Driving under the influence of any level of drug is unsafe.  Impaired driving is dangerous and completely preventable.  If anybody has drug in his/her system, he/she simply should not be driving on the road.

Must stop the proposed California constitutional amendments on tax increases to avoid opening up the floodgate to tax increases

The new Legislature is dominated by unethical pro-tax politicians.  The following bills, which undermine taxpayers’ protections in Proposition 13, have been introduced.  If approved, they could cost every family thousands of dollars and hurt the economy.  It would simply open up the floodgate for more property tax and sales tax.  Please definitely contact your state legislators to express your strong opposition to these proposed constitutional amendments.

Must stop any effort in eliminating family reunion immigration categories to protect Asian Americans’ political power and business

We strongly urge legislators to steer clear of eliminating family reunion immigration categories, and we will not forget those in Congress of either party who vote to deny Americans our cherished right to reunite with our families.  We urge all Americans to remain on guard against the revival of this inhumane, unjust, and anti-family proposal, and we ask that federal legislators act for the betterment of American families and our country.

Led a major San Francisco Bay Area coalition against bridge toll increase

In 1989, the bridge toll was $1, now it is $5 or more, the increase is much faster than inflation.  Our effort has contributed to the lowering of carpool charge to $2.5 and the delaying of charges to truckers.  It also has served as a warning to MTC.
