— Approved based on party line and signed by Gov. Newsom.
— Using the excuse of President Trump’s arresting illegal aliens, to try to deprive parents of guardianship which can even be done without the knowledge of the parents, to the outrage of Californians!
— This bill violates U.S. Constitution, the 1st Amendment and 14th Amendment.
— But a last-minute major amendment was added that only relatives can be caregivers.
— This lowers the chance of taking the new law down by a lawsuit while protecting students from getting a non-relative as caregiver/guardian without parent’s approval.
— Suggestions to parents to create proper safeguards:
— Form from parents to schools to name the possible caregivers allowed (emergency contacts). Please see attached. The form specifies that the school can only allow one of the emergency contacts listed by parent as caregiver/guardian.
— Proposed policies from parents to school boards for better safeguards.
